Wildwood Hotel and Tavern

Proprietor: Calvin (Cal) Perkins

The Wildwood was no classier than the competition in Shiftless, though that bar was set rather low in such a small, ramshackle town, it just had a little more to offer.  The sign across the front facade of the building was faded and cracked and the windows were dusty, and one of the swinging doors sagged a bit on its hinges.  Once you made it inside things did not really improve.  The floor and tables were almost clean, and the oil lamps and shone dully through smoke blackened glass.  Along one wall stood a long bar of dark wood complete with a large mirror surrounded by bottles of whiskey and other spirits on the shelves, behind which an older man in a white shirt and black vest stood, wiping down the surface of the bar.  A scattering of cheap tables littered the room, with most displaying decks of cards for gambling.  A door along the back wall led to the kitchen, where the sounds and smells of cooking were apparent.  Against the wall across from the bar a flight of stairs headed up to the rooms for rent above.
At a table near the stairs sat Miss Emily, a handsome middle-aged woman with dark hair who oversaw the girls at the Wildwood, and who was currently talking with Sophie, a pretty blond in a yellow dress.  The women favour you with smiles when you enter, and the man behind the bar calls out,
  "What'll you have, stranger?"
