The undead of Lokren are the chief threat to the humans and demihumans who have survived the Red Mist. The number of undead roaming the land seems to have risen since the Red Mist, leading some to speculate that the mist caused the already-dead to rise and turned most of the living into undead. This would explain both their disappearance and the large number of undead now present in all parts of Lokren, but there is so far no known link to the Red Mist and the formation of undead. Those few still alive who know of such things cannot fathom how the Valtian grid could have caused such an effect, but at the same time, they cannot understand why the grid should have led to the Red Mist in the first place.

The undead appear to be an organised force, existing in warbands throughout the empire. They seem to have command structures and leaders and engage in frequent and repeated attacks against the strongholds of the few survivors. So far, these attacks have been repulsed, but the undead are relentless and continue to attack every few weeks, showing cunning and intelligence in their tactics. Only the sturdy fortifications built or occupied by the survivors have kept them alive, but in places the undead are wearing down the defenders, killing the precious few who are left to hold the beleaguered positions.

Little is known of the undead at present, save that they appear to be somehow different to the undead as they were known prior to the Red Mist. An observation that has oft been made is that the undead never seem to attack during the day. Indeed, those undead that have been found in daylight have been discovered lying inert and helpless and can apparently be slain without fear of retaliation. Why this should be is completely unclear, as it never used to be the case.
