The Ardryn nation (IPA: /ˈaːdɹɪn/) is a tribal confederacy composed of the indigenous people of southern and eastern Epiros.

Once a nomadic warrior race composed of a large number of disparate tribes, the Ardryn have been conquered by the Lokrenians and are now mostly found in Lokren as a marginalised and maltreated people who exist on the fringes of Lokrenian society.

Although many hold true to their heritage and ancestry, most are forced to find a way to survive in Lokrenian society, where, despite a royal decree that they shall remain a free people, they are treated as little more than slaves. Racism towards them is commonplace and many Lokrenians regard the tribesmen as being lower than animals.

For this reason, there are still those Ardryn who hold to the old ways and try to continue the nomadic lifestyle of their forebears, choosing to live in camps in the deep woods, but their numbers are dwindling after the many battles against the Lokrenians and those who have survived struggle to defend themselves from the other denizens of the forest, most notably the orc tribes, with whom the Ardryn have warred for generations beyond counting.

They suffer further losses to their isolated populations as young Ardryn choose to leave the camps to try and find a place among their conquerers, suffering harsh persecution in exchange for the relative safety of Lokrenian settlements.

Language

The Ardryn speak their own language. Most Ardryn also speak Lokrenian. Prior to the coming of the Lokrenians, the Ardryn language had no written form. As such, when it is written down at all, the Ardryn language is written using Lokrenian script.

While the Lokrenian term Ardryn is taken from the Ardryn language, it is not used by the Ardryn to refer to themselves when they are speaking their own tongue.
