25. THE PARIS GUARD

25.1 The Paris Guard Regiment

The Paris Guard Regiment is a duplicate of the Picardy Musketeers and has the same joining requirements, SP gains and pay etc. as that Regiment. The regiment never goes on campaign as it is permanently stationed in Paris - though it may be called upon by the Royal Governor of Paris to quell a revolt - and can never volunteer. The regimental weapon is the rapier and they have no regimental enemies.

Once a character has served with the Paris Guard for a month they can then apply for any suitable vacant appointments in the Nightwatch (see below).

25.2 The Night Watch

Troopers of the Nighwatch must spend 2 weeks patrolling the streets and Ensigns 1 week, this replaces the usual regimental duty. Captains of the Nightwatch may volunteer for patrol duties as they wish, and lower ranks can patrol for additional weeks in addition to their required weeks of duty if they wish to do so.

In any week in which a character is on patrol no other player character can be mugged when leaving the bawdyhouse. If the roll means that the bawdyhouse patron would otherwise have been robbed then on a roll second of 5+ patrolling characters catch the potential mugger and each receives a bonus of 1D6 x 10 livres. In weeks when other characters do not visit the bawdyhouses the patrol catches an attempted mugger on a 6+ and automatically receives the bonus.

During a week of patrol members of the watch are considered to have fulfilled their Female Companionship requirement at one of the establishments visited, at no cost. They have no requirement to carouse at the same time - indeed this would be considered as drinking on duty.
