At the northern tip of the Longdoe hills, north of Ironspike, and south of Crabtown, sits a small, but ancient, temple to Ernalda.  The temple is a simple block of stone embedded three-fourths up a steep, terraced hill that faces north toward Skyfall Lake.  It is said that the temple has sat in this location since before the Dawn, and though of minor importance, is a site sacred to the All Mother.  The temple is protected by the Jelmire Clan.  By tradition, the chief priestess is leader of the community, though in practice it is the clan chief that makes most of the decisions.  Faith in Ernalda is strong, and many born within the community have a close connection to the Earth Rune.

The Jelmire clan has sat apart from Sartar for most of its existence, making a living with the land and trading with the Uz of Crabtown.  In the past, the Jelmire have been part of the Tavtoras and Amad tribes, but the arrangement lasts but a few generations before tensions build due to the Jelmire’s primary reverence of Ernalda over Orlanth, for the clan treats Orlanth as the first among equals of Ernalda’s husband protectors.  With the rise of the Lunar Empires influence, this tension has grown more pronounced, and the community has found itself between Lunar supporters from Aldu-Chur and the Orlanth loyalists of the Far Place.  The people of Jelmine believe that it is the peaceful presence of Ernalda that has protected them from becoming a battle ground between the warring Tribes of the Aldu-Chur and Alone confederations.

The community of Jelmine consists of three main bloodlines, each of which trace their lineage to the Dawn, and each is dedicated to one of Ernalda’s Husband-Protectors.  The Durten bloodline follows Orlanth the Householder (Durev), and are the backbone of the clan; many of the clan’s chieftains have come from this bloodline, and they are the holders of most of the clan’s hides.  The Murval bloodline is devoted to Elmal the Sun, and they give rise to many of the clan’s weapon thanes.  The Garlin bloodline is the smallest, and their devotion lies with Argan Argar who taught the family how to farm fungi and speak with their Uz neighbors.  The traders that help the clan prosper come from the Garlin bloodline.

[Canon Note:  The fortified city of Alone is described as a major place for trade with the Uz, yet the Alone confederation is noted for their troll-fighters, especially from the Bachad tribe.  I’ve never found it feasible for an Uz caravan to travel though such hostile lands to trade with Wilaenik humans.  Jelmine and Crabtown are where most interactions and trade between humans and Uz takes place.  Traders come to Jelmine during Market time (Wild Day of Mobility Week of each Season), and Garlin traders travel to Alone and Aldu-Chur.]
