We're using the Optional Components rule, with knowledge of such components being considered advanced magical theory above most casters' heads, and the Scrounging for Components rule is available, but limited: each component can only be found in the appropriate setting, and successfully finding any requires a successful DC 15 Knowledge (nature) check. However, a successful check yields 2d6 gp worth of the material, not 1d6.
