Home to UN Spacy science and surveillance outpost SARA, Mars was cleansed of human presence by the Zentraedi during Space War One. Maybe because of that sinister event, Mars was never developped as anything more than a military base and a mining operation.
Nowadays, the red planet is mainly known for the infamous camp Ares, UNSMC infantry training station.
