Instead of the roll-under d20 mechanic, we'll use the D&D d20 base mechanic: roll d20 and add modifiers

Your modifier is calculated as if your Characteristic + Skill rating were your D&D Ability rating. So, if you have a combined rating of 12, you'd have a +1 modifier to your d20 roll. Your goal number will usually be 10 for easy, 15 for difficult, or your opponent's Characteristic + Skill rating for resisted rolls.

1. Weapon damage (DMG) + attack VP - defense VP ±any other modifiers = attack damage
2. Check to see if a shield mitigates the damage
3. Attack damage - Armor protection = Actual damage
