Rogue Scientist:

Unlike the Rogue Scholar, who is interested in preserving ancient knowledge and sharing information with "the people," the Rogue Scientist is interested in learning about NOW. The world has changed, and they want to know everything they can about it, often through direct study. This sort of inquisitive nature is frowned upon by The Coalition, of course, and the Federation of Magic often sees this line of activity as a waste of time, since they tend to believe that developing magic is the way forward, not more science.
