Archetypes These are the four archetypal background classes cover the most common ROLES for combat and problem-solving found in the 'low magic' Swords and Sorcery world of Arkos. Warlord, Mystics, Scoundrel, and Hunter.
- Warlords ...are typically sincere martial types who rely most on arms and fight in armor, the excel in melee combat. Many are natural leaders that can command and inspire confidence by their proficiency of martial ability on the battlefield. Most have significant strategic knowledge or at least squad combat tactics sufficient to hone those who are not AS capable of exact martial efficiencies.
- Mystics ...are a diverse lot and can act as a scorcher of enemies or as a healer of allies in battle. The Mystics are often skilled problem-solvers as well, many times thanks to their access to mystical rituals.
- Scoundrels ...tend toward agility and cunning combat tactics, whether fighting from a distance or in close quarters. Skillful problem-solvers, especially when it comes to practical or socially oriented challenges.
- Hunters ...and their toil are of great importance, both for by civilized society and among the barbarous clans east of the Border Kingdoms. Since the Fall the wilder places surpass all other regions and reclaiming a position as an Apex predator relies on the ability to traverse the wilderness. In THIS world any hunter is on par with any other class of true hero. Covered in the dirt of the wilds, eyes shining with the light of the future, hunters are vital in the project of cultivating and taming the new world.
Each archetype is further exemplified by a number of occupations - which are indicative of different kinds of vocations which exist in the campaign and in the society of various nations. [These Occupations and Professions may include 'archetypes' from the Pathfinder system... depending entirely on the nature of the organization surrounding the variant class. Some occupations are prestigious, having tough requirements for membership. A starting character may not belong to such an occupation from the start - to be eligible the character must have all the abilities mentioned under Required Abilities, one of them at the master level. Such organizations are meant to be used as a character’s goal, something to strive towards and plan for. Also, note that each advance role grants access to a unique ability.]
