Dara was born the first and only child of Matthew and Glorinda Algot.  Matthew was a paladin, a soldier for the kingdom serving the good of Iomadae and Glorinda a common housewife who kept the home in the absence of her husband.  Gloridina died in childbirth while Matthew was away and Dara spent the first three months of her life in the care of her grandmother until Matthew could return.  The loss of his wife was devastating and Matthew gave up his post so that he could raise his daughter the proper way, believing that it was both his duty as a father and as a man of Helm to do so.
Her childhood was filled with education and training.  Lacking a son and too hurting over the loss of his wife to remarry, Matthew poured all of his love and dedication into Dara, teaching her the ways of war from theory to execution of combat and field battle.  She learned the art of the sword, having been given a stick as a child to learn with.  Dara was stronger than the girls of her age and preferred sport to domestics.  Still, even as she was learning the ways of a warrior, she felt both a calling and a personal desire for a different path.  In a profoundly life-altering dream which came right around the time of the onset of puberty she was visited by Sarenrae.  In her dream she was shown a path in life, a definition to the calling she had felt but could not identify.  She saw herself as a healer, a protector, someone who held not her father's sword but a scimitar in one hand and a baby in the other.  Speaking to the village elders she determined that her calling was not as her father had been grooming her for but one that her mother would have chosen.
Dara became a cleric of Sarenrae.  Her father, understanding the calling even if he was not entirely happy with it, supported her every step of the way.  Having been taught the martial skills in Iomadae's name already, Dara was able to learn about the protective and compassionate side of life.  At fifteen she was a growing midwife, at seventeen she was an apprentice doctor and when she left home she was an up and coming master at pregnancy, childbirth and infant health.
For the last several years Dara has traveled the countryside following her heart, led by Sarenrae into new lands where people desperately need her skills, where sickness and disease claim the weak and violence and death plague the strong.  Fortified by her unwavering faith in the Dawnflower and armed with sword, shield and faith, Dara continues to help those counting every successful birth and life as a redemption of sorts for her mother who gave her life so that Dara could have one.
