Half-elves in Ersadia are the restult of the coupling of elves and humans.  They usually resemble one parent or ther other, with those that resemble their human parent having an easier life.  Their views on subjects like life, love and spirituality run the gambit based on their upbringing.  Most come from a single parent home (usually the human parent, depending on their elven heritage).  Elven females are more likely to be cast out if it is discovered that they are carrying a "half-human" child.

Society

Half-elves have no kingdoms or lands of their own.  They are forced to mix with other races and cultures to survive.  Some are fortunate enough to become wealthy and very powerful but they are still patronized or pitied by their peers.  They are the ultimate handymen or women having garnered their skills in their travels. They make their living doing whatever is called for at the time or the place that they are at.

They organize in small communities that are little better than villages and those half-elves are usually older and more established in the world.  These particular half-elves have most often outlived their human parent and have nowhere else to go. Half-elves in these communities have sworn their fealty to some lord or kingdom and are taxed and protected according those lands' customs.  Unfair causes some half-elves to find lands of their own without the protection of a larger force.  These settlements are most often temporary because of predators - sentient or otherwise.

Half-elven relationships are usually with humans for many reasons.  Isolation from elves and the general acceptance - even awe - some humans hold for them fuels the majority of them.  Love and children are main concerns of half-elven relationships.  Some do not want to perpetuate and expose their children to the hate and prejudice they have felt their whole lives.  Others are interested in raising a family of their own in peace. Relations

To most people in Ersadia, half-elves are just another spoke in the wheel of the world.  Half-elves who follow the law, pull their own weight and generally do as those around them are do are left to themselves.  Those that find themselves even suspected of wrong-doing have a longer road ahead for any kind of justice. There are the general prejudices that some hold against mixed breeds but most of those keep to their won thoughts on the matter or will show their thoughts passively.  This might mean more expensive goods and services or just "no room at the inn".  Receptions are a mixed bag at worst for half-elves.

Elves take another outlook on their half-breed kin.  For their part, some take offense at the very existence of half-elves and some have no problems bringing them into the world.  Each subrace has a different outlook on half-elves: elishari (singular elishar) or "half-humans", which is insulting to most half-elves.
Half-elves are cautious around elves known for bigotry and friendly with those that are more accepting of them. A typical viewpoint is that they can ill-afford to be unfriendly to anyone given their position, so many go out of their way to befriend or be polite to anyone they meet.  Few half-elves choose the life of a loner and those that do and survive are highly respected (more on sub-race relations?)

Alignment and Religion

Half-elves have no set outlook on life or the ways of the world.  They can be good-natured and kind or spiteful and cruel, depending on their experiences.  They deal with the hand that's dealt to them and they either succumb to their fate or overcome it.  Many of them try to find their own moral way and in so doing try to avoid notice at all.  Some take up crusades and ideals for their own having to show the world that they are not what the labels cast them as.

Adventurers

Half-elves are adept at learning new skills and professions.  Their talents run the gammut and they can excel at any particular style of adventuring.  They roam the world looking for homes, they might seek fame or infamy and they could just want to get rich by taking others' treasures.
