Capital City

Historically most people know Sallineth as the City of Magic or the City of Light.  The latter comes from the mysterious white material many of the newer buildings are made of and in the moonlight or during High Sun the city gives off a pleasant and luminescent appearance.  The former name is no secret, with the Luminary Triptych located in the city - made up of each a master of arcane and divine magic as well as a psion of immense power - the city has become a beacon for all that is magical and intellectual in the Aveloran region.

The *kingdom of Sallineth started humbly and quickly moved to be a powerful one in the region.  There are 3 duchy's each a vassal to a district of Sallineth.  Each duchy contains 2 baronies and the barons run the day to day operations. The city relies on a mercenary company known as the Order of the Alabaster Wyrm to provide security and law enforcement in the city and the surrounding area.  They are broken up into four "legs" each of which is seen primarily in one part of the city.  The Whitecloaks and Silver Shields of the Order - a part of the same leg - represent the sovereign power of the city and kingdom and carry with them the word of law wherever they go.  The other "legs" of the Order only possess the authority to enforce the law in their own district and that district's vassals.

To say that Sallineth is a cosmopolitan metropolis is a severe understatement.  Not only do races from all over the globe reside, visit and do business here, other races from the planes "Unveiled" by the Wandering have made it a frequent place to visit.  It is nothing to see a genie floating down the street or a large furry minotaur buying butchered meat at the local shop.  Any and all races of elves, dwarves, fey creatures and those of magical descent live, love and die here.  There truly is no place like it on Ersadia.

Laws of the City

Because of this extreme melting pot and the mystical nature of the city, laws can be very strict.  The number one law that all within the city must follow is no errant spellcasting or manifesting is tolerated.  To this purpose, all users of spells or powers must register with the Triptych and not get caught performing magic in a non-sanctioned area.  Of course, this does not sit well with the followers of Venia and several demonstrations are held in a moon's time.

The city has one fortress and it's essentially another city - nearby: The Citadel of the Eagle.  This is a vast repository of knowledge run by the church of Naristan and defended by the same - although Maelbirethian and Filumenites have moved in in recent years to help in the building of defenses. This is a satellite city of the larger city and though it does not hold near the splendor of the parent, it is built to safeguard many of Sallineth's most precious valuables.
