Kildanis is roughly trapezoidal in shape with the smaller side facing south. The continent is divided in half by The Great River. The Great River, or more commonly The River, is actually two separate rivers. One runs north from Heartland Lake and through a canyon carved through the Dragonspine Mountains and empties into the icy Northern Sea. The other runs south from the lake and empties out into the Marsa Basin, a large delta not unlike Earth's Nile River Delta. The entirety of the fertile delta rests in Lower Lete. Straddling The Great River is lush, fertile veld. To the west the veld runs into dense forests and hills before those run into the Thundering Mountains. Moving back east over The Great River one is greeted with a hilly expanse of veld before moving into the Boiling Sea, a huge expanse of water filled with pockets of unpredictable and dangerous geothermal activity.
Heading southeast from Heartland Lake there is more veld and eventually the Aura Desert, a seemingly endless of expanse of shifting sands and rocky crags. Heading north along the coast of Kildanis with the Boiling Sea on your right you'll run into the Jandalaman Isthmus, home of the largest surviving country ruled by elves.

Regions of Kildanis

Aura Desert

Life in the Aura Desert is hard. There are no reliable maps of the area as the sands are constantly shifting and changing. Entire camps can be swallowed overnight by any of the many sudden and deadly dust storms coming in off of the Boiling Sea or the Pal'al Ocean to the south. Water is worth more than gold and the few oases in the desert are home to exotic and territorial people who are not fond of outsiders. Geographically the land is dominated by sand. Endless, coarse, heavy, sand. Standing on top of a dune one can see for miles an endless expanse of sand broken only by the sudden rise of a shattered stone or the remains of a High Elf tower jutting up at seemingly impossible angles. There is fame and money to be made plundering those ruins but few attempt it because of the dangers of exposure or dehydration, and even fewer return.

Black Isle

Black Isle is a large island off the coast western coast of the continent separated from the Republic of the Magi by the Strait of Mists. Black Isle is surrounded by a thick fog that never seems to fully dissipate. Sometimes the island is almost visible, with hints of a single, mountain peak covered in snow. Others it is totally and dangerously obscured by the fog. The island is inhabited by monks their families, and an odd assortment of individuals who don't mind literally living on death's door as the island is entirely the domain of Grenshala, the Goddess of life, death and balance.

Boiling Sea

The Boiling Sea is a large expanse of water dotted with volcanoes and other rocky inhospitable islands. The water itself is mostly safe unless the planet is going through a period of geological unrest. In those times the water can be seen in many places to bubble with hot, foul smelling gases. During the cooler winters the Boiling Sea is mostly safe and navigable as cooler currents move into the sea and lower water temperatures.

Dragonspine Mountains

A long thin edge of serrations running the entire northern expanse of the continent the Dragonspine Mountains are massive and can be seen from miles and miles across the veld. These mountains are almost entirely the domain of the dwarves who seem to have been there as long as the mountains have been. There are a scant few isolated pockets of humans, elves, and other races scraping out existences but none of these rogue colonies could be called thriving.

Endless Forest

The Endless Forest sits on the western border between the Empire of Demenia and the Republic of the Magi. It covers nearly half of the Empire's lands and runs right up through the foothills of the Thundering Mountains and into them until the altitude of the first ranges stops them.

Great River

The Great River is really two rivers draining out of Heartland Lake, which is fed by almost half of the continent's rivers. The river is more than a mile wide at its widest, incredibly navigable from the lake north where it empties into the North Sea through the only break in the Dragonspine Mountains's run east to west. To the south the river empties into a huge delta that would be impassable except for the work of Southern Letians who have built an extensive system of canals, elevators, and other machinery to make the dizzying number of tidal pools, waterfalls, and inlets navigable.

Great Veld

The Great Veld dominates the center of the continent running uninterrupted from the edges of the Endless Forest over the Great River and clear to the continent's eastern coast. The veld is home to lions, bison, and a plethora of wildlife. The land is incredibly fertile and Lete has its capital on of the few navigable rivers running east of Heartland Lake. The river itself actually empties into the lake.

Heartland Lake

Heartland lake is a massive expanse of water sitting almost square in the middle of the continent. Due to it's unique topography more than half of the continent's rivers empty into the lake. The lake provides excellent fishing, a reliable trade route north and south and a large island at the extreme northern tip of the lake is home to Demenia City, the capital of the Empire of Demenia.

Jandalaman Rainforest

The rainforests that dominate the Jandalaman Isthmus are ancient and huge. The rainforest consists primarily of hemlock and spruce trees that can grow to truly impressive heights and thicknesses. The Wood Elves of the Thirteen Matriarchs make their homes here and many of the trees have been nearly hollowed out for shelter and a massive network of ropes, pulleys and walkways fills the canopy in many places. The forest is home to large deer, bears, and many other forest creatures.
