The elemental relationships presented in Elements of Magic on page 26 are deeply flawed and will not be used. Furthermore, the vast majority of creatures are not gaining elemental subtypes. In place of this, resistance and vulnerability apply to the element stated by that feature and all elements adjacent to it on the sphere (shown on page 19 of EoM). Cardinal elements are adjacent to para-elements, positive elements, and negative elements. Para-elements are only considered adjacent to cardinal elements. Furthermore, half of this value applies to elements adjacent to any of those elements, rounded down. When resist and vulnerable collide, they cancel each other out according to the standard rules of arithmetic.

Example: An amphibious monster has Water Resistance 10. The full value of this resistance also applies to Mist, Ice, Ooze, and Acid. It also gets half of this value, 5, against the element of Air.

Example 2: This same creature as above is inflicted with a Hex Lightning spell by Tri'ni Gren'eys, giving it Vulnerable Lightning 10. This causes it to also gain Vulnerability 10 to Air and Fire spells. Vulnerability 10 Air is reduced by Resist 5 Air to Vulnerability 5. Light, Shadow and Lava inherit Vulnerable 5 from the vulnerability to Fire. Sound and Void inherit Vulnerability 2 from the vulnerability to Air. The resistance 10 Mist is reduced by 2 as well, leaving it with a Resist 8 Mist.

An illustration of these relationships will be added in the near future!
