Infantry Class Explanations
Groundpounders - A military soldier whose primary role is infantry or the use of ground-based materiel.

Light - Also referred to as Scouts, these soldiers eschew heavier gear for faster and more independent movement.

Cavalry - A combined arms concept that has basic infantry supported by armoured scout cars, motorcycles and light AFVs.

Mechanized - A combined arms concept that has basic infantry supported by AFVs.

Power Armor - Infantry mounted in powered armor, offering the flexibility of infantry with a notable increase in firepower capabilities.

Armour Class Explanations

Light Tank - Lightweight cheap tanks intended for reconnaissance and small scale battles

Assault Tank - Fast moving single purpose tanks

Main Battle Tank - Modern main battle tanks or "universal tanks" incorporate recent advances in automotive, artillery, armour, and electronic technology to combine the best characteristics of the historic medium and heavy tanks into a single, all around type. They are also the most expensive to mass-produce.

Note that we're treating APCs, IFVs and scout cars as Transportation for Infantry units, and Self-Propelled Guns as an Artillery class

Artillery Class Explanations

Light Battery - ???
Cannon - ???

Howitzers - A type of artillery piece characterized by a relatively short barrel and the use of comparatively small propellant charges to propel projectiles over relatively high trajectories, with a steep angle of descent. They are highly mobile, usually based on tracked chassis carrying either a large howitzer or other field gun or alternatively a mortar or some form of rocket or missile launcher. They are usually used for long-range indirect bombardment support on the battlefield.

Mortar - ???

Rocket - Utilizes rockets vice conventional shells for ammunition, but otherwise shares the same characteristics as Howitzers.

Note that Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Tank focus is a matter of unit construction rather than type and class with present Doctrines

Naval Class Explanations

Patrol Craft - Ships whose primary function is coastal patrol and interdiction.

Surface Combatant - Large, heavily armed surface ships which are designed primarily to engage enemy forces on the high seas, including various types of battleship, battlecruiser, corvette, cruiser, destroyer, and frigate. At present only Destroyers are understood, except by the Grande Armada

Carrier - Ships that serve as mobile seaborne airfields, designed primarily for the purpose of conducting combat operations by Carrier-based aircraft which engage in attacks against airborne, surface, sub-surface and shore targets.

Submarine - Self-propelled submersible types regardless of whether they are employed as combatant, auxiliary, or research and development vehicles which have at least a residual combat capability.

Support - Ships, such as oilers, designed to operate in the open ocean in a variety of sea states to provide general support to either combatant forces or shore based establishments. (Includes smaller auxiliaries which, by the nature of their duties, leave inshore waters).

Artillery Class Explanations

Fighter - A military aircraft designed primarily for air-to-air combat against other aircraft. The hallmarks of a fighter are its speed, maneuverability, and small size relative to other combat aircraft.

Attack - A tactical military aircraft that has a primary role of carrying out airstrikes with greater precision than bombers, and is prepared to encounter strong low-level air defenses while pressing the attack. This class of aircraft is designed mostly for close air support and naval air-to-surface missions, overlapping the tactical bomber mission.

Multi-Role - ?

Bomber - A combat aircraft designed to attack ground and naval targets by dropping air-to-ground weaponry (such as bombs), firing torpedoes and bullets or deploying air-launched cruise missiles.

Gunship - A military aircraft armed with heavy guns, primarily intended for attacking ground targets. These can be either fixed wing or rotary wing assets.

Support - Non-combat roles of military aircraft include search and rescue, reconnaissance, observation/surveillance, Airborne Early Warning and Control, transport, training, and aerial refueling.
