As it stands, the presence of magic in this world is quite a limited one. The art of sorcery is one relegated to the annals of time, with the last great school buried along with the remains of the northern kingdom of Valentia. Practitioners of those arts are not widely respected in any event, as the northern school bore suspicion of a heavy hand in the destruction wrought after the star fall. The intervening decade, as well as the sanctions imposed upon the northern mountain border, have dulled some of the ill-will of the people toward such arcane endeavors.

For better or worse, the cataclysm in the north was widely seen as evidence of corruption and decadence being punished by the heavens, though that view was largely encouraged by the neighboring kingdom to the south, and the newly minted rule of Queen Merva as she sought to justify her ascent to the throne in the wake of both the northern tragedy, and her husband's own demise.

However, the truth of the matter is slightly more complicated, as the school of mages was directed to study the shards of crystal that were recovered from the meteor crater in the mountains, by the Valentian King. But, that directive was lost with the resulting destruction of the royal palace, and has been relegated to speculation and rumor, even to the surviving members of House Valeni most of whom were away from the royal palace when the calamity struck in full.
