Each race also has a number of Hobby points listed here that give a certain number of extra skill ranks.  These should also be spent now as they will greatly help your character in the early stages of his adventuring career.  Each hobby point will gain you one extra rank in a skill but there is a limit to how many points can be spent on each skill.  You will note that each profession has a limit to how many ranks you can increase at a given level and that is the maximum number of ranks you can gain from hobby points.
