Gulch grew up on the Red Plains of Ygg, where one's safety was one's own responsibility.  This wary attitude has served her well, but her darting eyes often seem more animal than human to those from civilized societies.

Well-built by her people's standards, Gulch seems even taller in comparison to men of the empires.

Though comfortable around magic, Gulch is distrustful of the gods and spirits of other lands. She has fashioned a number of fetishes to ward herself as she traveled through many cultures.  Jangling strings of small brass bells wrapped around her limbs are the most conspicuous of her current charms.

Little from Gulch’s traditional Plainsman garb remains.  She has replaced it piecemeal with a functional--if eclectic--mix of clothing she admired in other cultures.  Her dress shows no regard for expectations of fashion or gender, but she likes the way it looks.

Even though she has left her home for to walk the world, Gulch has not forgotten where she comes from.  She champions the anarcho-syndicalist culture of her roots, and holds to these ways in spite of more “civilized” laws.  She values individual freedom above most else, and relishes opportunities to sow necessary disorder and free those seeking escape from bonds: social, political, economic, physical, or otherwise.

Gulch can get by in several tongues of man, but she cannot read. Her youth was filled with practical lessons in gathering, hunting, and especially trade, but the Red Plains of Ygg have no central locations of knowledge of learning. Everything she knows of the outside world has been learned through direct contact, and she values personal experience more than the gossip, hearsay, and speculation contained within books.

Trade and independent travel have taught her to be patient with the etiquette and protocols of other peoples, but manners can only go so far.  Gulch’s size and exotic look [Polynesian by Earth standards] consistently mark her as an outsider.

Plainsmen have no gods per se, but worship bold ancestors who found spectacular success in trade, freedom fighting, and exploration. Though she does not deny the utility of armour, Gulch would rather live heroically and be venerated in legend than merely survive each day.
