The Finger was one of two recovered "power cores" used by Observation Squadron 54 (VO54) in its exploration of alien spaceflight technology.  Descriptions from squadron survivors indicate it may be similar in nature to the TERMITE WINKLER artifact.

The Finger was a faceted jade spindle, three inches long and one inch thick.  It had a crack along its long axis that would fluctuate in length, lengthening under stress and "healing" itself if the artifact was left undisturbed for one to two weeks.

Like The Reaper, The Finger was sensitive to thoughts.  If someone concentrated on it, it would become weightless, immune to gravity.  Control systems were necessary for anything else.  VO54 developed up with a way to plug the item into a filtered EEG machine.  A human operator with good visualization skills and a way to enter REM sleep could generate a radius of antigravity effect, or could make it radiate, anything from gamma to high-frequency radio.  When it was radiating, it also generated was a continuous strong static at 575 megahertz - matching the WILDWOOD GROUSE signature.

At least four aircraft using The Finger and/or The Reaper for propulsion were flight-tested.

The Finger was involved in a significant laboratory accident in late 1957 or early 1958.  An uncontrolled release of radiation and accompanying "gravitational anomaly" killed several engineers and VO54's radiation safety team.  The affected personnel were buried in lead-lined coffins; the laboratory was torn down and its debris was trucked to Idaho for burial. Laboratory equipment at one end of The Finger was spontaneously accelerated at 40 to 50 Gs, along with one researcher's hand.

The Finger's current whereabouts are unknown.
