La Roija isn't the capital of the Whitewind Archipeligo but it probably should be.

Its not more populous than Temuco -yet. But the island that La Roija presides over IS the one with the most resources. Temuco was the first place the natives landed on but the Isla del Fuego WAS the island they most wanted.

In the history of the islands, La Roija has been 'lost' several times. Abandoned, destroyed by StormSurge, moved, rebuilt, and abandoned in an unending cycle - til the last one. During the last storm surge (2 decades ago) a manner of building was created which allowed most of La Roija to survive its destruction. And there are those talent few, people filled with hope who have emigrating away from Temuco to swell the tide of La Roija's strength.

As is the way of things when one threat lessens another may loom greater.  This time the destruction of La Roija may be due to 'invaders from the mainland'.  Its enough to make you think the city is cursed.

It all started last week when an emissary of the Central Empire sent a notice that the flagship of their fleet.  It would arrive soon to the Isle of Fire - from The Empire! 'the so called Central Empire - that is' They want to re-establish 'relations' with the Isla del Fuego in trade ...and with diplomacy.  Calling the Isle of fire - a long lost 'colony' of the 'Nobility of Arkos'.  There were lots of people who would have told them to go to hell, after that condescending attitude. There was - after all - a reason their fore fathers had left the mainland in the first place.  The Archipelago has survived - even prospered - without Imperial interference for centuries. "And we don't need them now."

But the mainland was a FAR different place TODAY than it was just 200 years ago. The 'Covenant of Kings' MADE 'the Central Empire' a better place - and that's not a small thing.  There were nations that a tiny place like La Roija could suddenly expect do trade with ... SAFELY!... and that would make the risk of meeting with them, worth while.

Of course - that was not lost on the Capital of the Archipelago - 'Temuco', that the Imperial Emissary asked to meet Governor of Roija instead of the capital's own govenor. And THAT has caused some internal contention. Strife the emissaries of the empire will - no doubt - use to their advantage if they can.

Little known to the diplomat, of the Central Empire, another emissary already exists in La Roija. No, not an emissary - an immigrant - from Primea.  A wealthy merchant prince from another nation making his home here - 'on the far side of his world'. A scientist. A retired explorer. A wealthy 'uncle' seeking a quiet place to avoid his family. A man given a diplomat's status regardless of his true claims.  He has too many connections and too much knowledge to be considered otherwise.

PRIMEA, that powerful partner in trade from beyond the outer reefs. THE trade partner that made the Whitewind Archipelago an independent force from the Imperial Mainland even possible.  And THAT is the main problem putting the Isle of Fire in the center of strife.  Both men are from the mainland albeit from different areas of it. The Central Empire is so wrapped in their own issues ...and intolerances... its possible they are not even aware they aren't the only Empire in their world.

And when they meet here in under a week's time.... THEN the fireworks will begin.
