Room Lists

Basic rooms.

These rooms come with simple furniture and little decoration.  Basic wooden bed frames, straw mattress, unpadded chairs, simple shelving etc.

Unless stated otherwise in the description, each room can service up to six people at most.  If you want more than six people in your household, you must buy the room again.  It can be added to the existing facility or become a separate room.  This especially useful if you have a larger staff, you might, for example, choose to have an upgraded kitchen to prepare food for you and your guests, but have a separate (basic) kitchen to cook for the staff.   The same concept works well for common bathrooms, offices etc …

Furnishings (+50% original cost)

The rooms listed above come with basic fittings and furniture, suitable for commoners,  servants and soldiers.  You can add better furnishings (at 50% of the original room cost) to any of the rooms listed above, to fetch them to a ‘Comfortable’ living standard.

There are wall hangings, more comfortable beds, padded and upholstered chairs, with better looking furniture and more of it.  You now have linen sheets between you and the woollen blankets, the kitchen has a better selection of pots, pans, and kettles (which can mean better food) and everything is a bit nicer.    Nice furnishings make their appearance in public rooms, the owner’s accommodation and those rooms that serve the owner and their guests (i.e. the kitchen) first.  They might never make their way to the servant quarters, storerooms, and courtyards.

You can buy these furnishings at the same time as you buy the room, or you can add them later.

For some rooms, furnishing upgrades have specific in-game effects.

Upgrades

There are primarily furnishings and equipment upgrades to existing rooms, in many cases the room descriptions don’t change, but seats are padded, beds are more comfortable, there are simple hangings on the wall, better equipment.  You must have the room (or pay for it at the same time) to have upgraded furnishings.  Upgrades are often applied to area that guests might see, and areas used (or servicing) the owner and their guests.  You might decide that the staff can cope with a basic bathroom and simple food from a basic kitchen.

Fancy upgrades

Fancy upgrades can only be applied to rooms that have already been upgraded.  This might mean leather upholstered chairs, feather beds, good wall hangings, occasional gilding etc.  This is often reserved for public areas -  or the owners personal suite.  And it is significantly more expensive.
