Isawa Yoshimatsu grew up wanting to be a great duelist.  He saw his first duel at the age of five and was so impressed by the experience that he began practicing everything that had to do with the sword, the "Soul" of the samurai.  His father was immensely proud Yoshimatsu's focus and encouraged the child to be the best he could be.  One fateful day Yoshi happened to be practicing in an old tea garden, at the age of 8 he was the epitome of patience, the rain dripping onto the ground off of his hair as he waited patiently for the correct drop to fall.  Little did he realize that he was being watched, he also did not realize that he had focused for two hours, waiting for that single drop.  He did notice however that on his way home an old man was following him.  He became worried that he had trespassed into a sacred garden without knowing and rushed home hoping to lose the old man in the rain.  Much to his chagrin a few minutes after arriving home there was a knock at the door.  His mother answered the door and there was the old man, standing in the rain, staring at Yoshi.

After being sent to his room so that the man could talk to his mother and father Yoshi paced back and forth, already preparing his apology.  When his father came in Yoshi just started into it with out being prompted.  It took his father a few sentences to get Yoshi to calm down, "You are not in trouble my blessed son." his father explained, "That man was one of the Ishiken Do.  He was watching you and has determined that you have a mighty ability.  You have the ability to cast void spells and are to begin training immediately!" his father said excitedly.  Yoshi stared at his father at first in surprise and then in disbelief, "But father, I am to be a duelist, a mighty swordsman!  I will not be allowed to train in the sword if I train as a shugenja!" Yoshi complained.  His father looked at him with sad eyes, "My son, Yoshi, it is true you will not be able to join the bushi school but nothing says you have to give up your love of the sword.  We discussed this at length and it appears your ability to focus so well is linked to your ability to harness the void.  If you do not go train in this school they will have to bind that ability for fear that it will consume you.  I am sorry son but you have to go."

Yoshi did not know what to do, all of his dreams and goals were being thrown away because he was cursed with this ability!  He tried to be stoic in front of his father but he could feel the tears pouring down his face, as if they were molten lead, shaming him, making him appear weak in front of his father!  Just like that he shut them off, turning towards the window he stared for a while outside at the rain.  "Very well father, if it is what I must do then it shall be done." his voice was colder now, his fate was not his to control, he knew that now.  If he must be a shugenja though he would be the best that had ever existed.  His father stared at the boy, saddened about the turn of events, and hoping that his son would understand eventually....
