The Super Nexus
In epic fashion all twenty-four ley lines in the ruins of Old Chicago intersect at the former site of the Sears Tower.  Why this structure, once boasted to be tallest building in North America, became a lighting rod for ley line activity is something the scholars in Lazlo debate heatedly.  The area itself has also been contested hotly.  In 12 P.A. when Joseph Prosek I marched his army up the avenues of Chicago toward the Federation of Magic stronghold at the nexus point the Federation had managed to build a powerful bunker complex in what used to be the underground parking garage of the Sears Tower.

Coalition troops took and held the bunker network in a savage battle only rivaled by the recent assault on the city of Tolkeen itself.  The magical energies unleashed during the battle and the death toll on both sides only fed the environment more energy.  As a result the nexus itself is the most unstable of all nexus points in North America.  While the Devil’s gate (St. Louis, MO), The Calgary Rift (Canada), and Adamsville (Ohio) are all larger with even more ley lines crossing the area Old Chicago remains the most active in random Rifts activity, ley line storms, and supernatural events.  RCSG scientists suspect this is due to the large amount of deaths that occurred in the area during the war and are keeping their eyes on Tolkeen for a similar effect.

The end result of the high level of activity at the nexus is that Shifters and other magic users can open a Rift at half the normal PPE cost.  Given the ambient PPE in the area it is almost an effortless affair to use this nexus for summoning, dimensional travel, and other rift related activity.  This means an almost endless parade of brazen magic-users, demons and supernatural creatures that just need to get close enough (within 200’) to the nexus for whatever ritual they are attempting.

To deter this type of behavior the Coalition has set up a forward firebase in the former Federation of Magic bunker system.  The environmental conditions in the area prohibit a full scale military base, but the area is constantly patrolled by passive and active means and a four hundred foot perimeter is mined, fenced, walled, barbed wired and barricaded to prevent wizards and interlopers from approaching the nexus and to prevent anything that comes out from venturing too far into the city.
