Loyalty checks represent your Unit's faith in your leadership and their willingness to stick by your Usurpation in the face of great dangers and the calling of Civilization. Without Loyalty, your Troops will abandon you at the slightest hint of peril.
When do you roll Loyalty Checks?
- If you break from a failed Morale: you make a Loyalty check.
- If you fail to pay upkeep (food or gold, or both): you make a Loyalty check.
Whenever a Unit must make a loyalty check; you add whatever bonus to Loyalty that you have from your Throne Room. Both low-level and high-level Units are subject to Loyalty Checks equally.
- If you completely fail: The Unit abandons you, and you lose 1 Obscurity. If you had pre-emptively taken their gear, this is -6 Obscurity instead.
- If you partially fail: The Unit abandons you. If you had pre-emptively taken their gear, you also sustain -4 Obscurity.
- If you partially succeed: You retain the Unit. This Unit operates at -10% to all Actions until they are fed and paid. They also take a -10% to future Loyalty checks until they are fed and paid.
- If you succeed or better: You retain the Unit. This Unit takes a -10% to future Loyalty checks until they are fed and paid.
