Rules
Combat Initiative Order
- You will all give me an init roll.
- I will make an init roll for the monsters, possibly 2-3 different ones depending on different types of monsters.
- We will be divided into "stages," and you can post in any order when your stage is up.
For instance:
Player 1 rolls a 15. Player 2 rolls a 19. Player 3 rolls a 20.
Monsters A roll 12. Monsters B roll 16.
That would make the stages:
- Stage 1 - Player 2 & 3
- Stage 2 - Monsters B
- Stage 3 - Player 1
- Stage 4 - Monsters A
Sometimes there will be only one roll for the monsters, as this can make combat go faster. When stage 1 is up, player 2 or 3 can go whenever they can, without waiting on the other or on me. If you want to delay your action until after another character has acted, post and say so. You don't need to wait for the other character to post.
Posting Guidelines
(shamelessly ripped from another game I'm in, but edited to make it my own)
Pacing
- Please try to make sure that you post regularly in the game - at least once a day is optimal, more frequently if possible.
- Let others (DM and players) know if/when you will be gone for a period of time.
- I will NPC characters if needed for up to a week.
- After one week, if there is no activity or communication from the player, then we will look for a replacement player or remove the PC from the campaign.
Style
- Post in present tense, unless another tense is obviously necessary.
- I will post as an all-seeing narrator, and you may do so as well (for those of you with literary inclinations: 3rd person omniscient). Feel free to include thoughts or reactions that other characters may not be privy to. I will trust you as players to know when to keep IC and OOC knowledge separate and when to judge that your character perceived someone's "hidden reaction."
Format
- Use colored text (pick a color and stick with it) for your character's speech, and italicized colored text for his/her thoughts. Explanatory text should be normal black font.
- Put OOC comments and game mechanics at the end of your post in cyan text e.g. OOC: How many HP do you have?
Length
- Posts may be as long or as short as you feel the situation warrants. Some of the best posts are one-liners. For those long posts, please give our eyes a rest and break the post up into paragraphs.
Meta-gaming
- Since this game has a tactical focus, you may meta-game to your heart's content. Just keep it in the OOC board. I have no problem with you posting in the OOC thread that you are planning to use your AP next round so could somebody hit you with a bonus to damage, or you think you can take out the enemy caster if somebody can get that fighter off your back.
Etiquette
- Don't control -- actively or passively -- other characters or NPCs in your posts.
- Let me know if anothers character's actions are inhibiting your fun. I've read situations wrong before--thinking players were taking offense when really it was just good IC fun--so I will stay out of it until somebody tells me otherwise. I am very open to receiving PM's if something is wrong/not going well, or if I'm just not catching something. Humility, respect, and grace are wonderful, lost virtues.
- Please let me know if you need to leave the game for any reason. Sometimes things don't work out. That's fine. Just let me know so we can move on with no hard feelings.
Combat Posting Guidelines
Post your roleplaying, then post your game mechanic actions as OOC. For example:
Durdyn sneers at the kobolds as he shifts to get a better spot. His stance changes, he lowers himself to the ground. Then, in a flash, he pulls his crossbow and fires at the lizards.
He smiles as the first bolt sinks into the lizard, but is disappointed when his 2nd veers right.
Move: Shift to L12
Minor: Stance change to Dancing Serpent
Standard: Rapid Shot Dex vs AC K1 & K2
(rolls)
From here we can see that the actions (move, minor, std) are specifically laid out, the attack type and what it hits is listed, the enemies to attack are specified, and all rolls are included here. If you follow these guidelines, I will love you forever. At least for a while.
Most of all, respect each other and enjoy the game. It's just a freaking game, after all.
