Fed by a backwards-running "waterrise" that climbs out of the Aerilpar Forest crater, the Darkulh tentatively serves as Freehold's eastern border—insofar as the settlement actually possesses any sort of boundary. More accurately, it marks the furthest east that any of the villagers are willing to go in their agricultural endeavors.

Unlike the Liontongue River, into which it merges just southeast of Freehold, the Darkulh is devoid of life and surrounded by an atmosphere of foreboding. Whether some curse lies over it that ties into the other river's magic is a mystery, but it is known that animals will not willingly drink of it.
