The world beyond the edge of town is a much different place, filled with strange magicks, things that seem like magic, and even stranger people. You are gradually learning about them all, but there's so much...sometimes it feels impossible to catch up, now that you've realized how far behind you appear to be.

After spending your lives believing the world to be shaped like a disc that turns on its edge, now you find out it's a sphere—and that the desert covers it all. The wastes really are unending, if not unoccupied. It feels like one of Old Adli's fantasy stories, the more so because the sphere apparently has rings; you've just never seen them properly because you've lived all your years at the "equator," which is sort of the globe's beltline. At least that explains what that bright line across the sky is, since you always figured it to be the track the sun ran on.

One moon, too, you knew about—the one that goes round where everybody can see it. You didn't know it was called Luna Ordinata, which seems a really highfalutin way to say "moon." And you'd heard tales of a second one, one that was lost or hiding or something like that, depending on the legend. Now you know it's called Luna Potissima, and it's locked in a "geosynchronous orbit" on the other side of the world from you. People there see it all the time, even in the day...you'll just never be able to spot it from the town you call home.

The further you travel, the bigger everything seems to get, including your ignorance. But you're learning, so perhaps you can count on that to one day grow smaller, instead.

Constellations

Aaohi's Talon
A set of three stars in a close line, running north to south, imagined to be the sky god's talon clutched around some prey or object.

Maruna's Crown
Near the southern end of Aaohi's talon, a jagged cluster of stars that are easy to visualize as a crown—or at least, what you think a crown probably looks like.

The Muse's Cloak
A milky swirl of faint stars with a red one at their tip, which you know as the clasp. The crimson mote is aligned with the north end of Aaohi's talon, so being able to see both groupings is a reliable navigational aid.
