The human world is big and complicated, as anyone who has lived in it knows. A few of the major powers will be covered here, as well as other general information.

The United States
The United States was, by far, the largest military power on the planet when the war started. As such, they have suffered the brunt of it. As the first major war on U.S. soil since the Civil War, it's done unprecedented damage to their infrastructure. Despite that, they're tough and still going strong. Because of the war, the draft has been reinstated, military industrialism is the highest it has been since World War II, and patriotism is rampant. That said, many freedoms have been suspended, and the police and military are constantly present and constantly on the lookout for Gifted to be forcibly pressed into service for the war.

Washington D.C. has been effectively destroyed as a functioning city. Humanity as a whole was not expecting the level of ferocity the Dragon Council would display in the early days of the war, and as such, most of the high-level members of government were killed in an early strike. The current President is Jonathan Gordon, originally Secretary of the Treasury when the war started. He has proven to be smart and capable, and after two years of being Acting President, won the Presidency by a landslide in 2040. He is currently running the government out of the military base in Cheyenne Mountain, a fortress that has thus far resisted incursion by the Dragon Council. That said, it has been some time since they've tried, as each failure wasted time and resources and improved human morale.

San Francisco is also largely uninhabitable. It was hit hard and early, in mid-summer 2039. Since then, many battles have been fought there, with the human side mostly losing ground. A mass exodus from Silicon Valley as a whole was the result, and many people have relocated to more remote areas of California, or left the state entirely for the relatively quiet Midwest.

The highly-populated east coast has also been a regular target of attacks, mostly targeting military complexes, population centers, and well-known landmarks. Despite this, the Statue of Liberty still stands - as a symbol of freedom, it has been fiercely guarded. Other areas of the coast have not been so fortunate.
