The "Glitch Techs Crossover RP" Manual
The original Glitch Techs x RP ("Glitch Techs Crossover RP") was a roleplay topic on RPNation. Currently I am setting it up for a "sequel series" RP on rpol.net to continue the storyline despite most of the original players losing interest due to outside factors.
Though primarily based on Glitch Techs, a relatively recent animated series, the lore borrows concepts from many other works as well, including Cyberpunk 2013/2020/RED/2077, Watch_dogs, THE FINALS, Big Hero 6, Mighty No. 9, Arcade World, Pixel-Ripped, Fallout and Fallout London, WALL-E, Wreck-It Ralph, ReBoot, DennÅ Coil, MegaMan Star Force, Person of Interest, Homestuck, Silicon Valley, Upload, Ready Player One, Halt and Catch Fire, Snow Crash, Otherland, and inZoi.
A weird world where electronics are generally cooler, and people aren't suffering, but various megacorps are trying to return from the ashes after one megacorp, Hinobi, managed to dominate the market entirely after the Global Economic Failure of 2026 entirely because it was the last megacorp standing (and sort of "played nice"). Our protagonists are introduced to the Game Mechanic business, of which the Hinobi Glitch Techs are the most prominent (think "Geek Squad" levels of visibility, minus the public knowing what Glitch Techs actually do) but far from alone. Arasaka's Troubleshooters, Innovative Online Industries' Sixers, and the Vaiiya branch of MultiCo. all operate under the same pretense, and that's just the first few "episodes"! Anyway, I digress. Feel free to join the RP if you've ever watched ReBoot, played Watch_dogs, or read Rainbows End and want an RP with some "technology pr0nz" in it. (NOTE: "Technology porn" is referring to the movie special effects trope of showing off cool high-tech-looking CGI creations for a sense of wonder, not actual R18+ content. We cannot accept R18+ content for a number of reasons, including choices of host that have a ban in place regarding sexual roleplay. This is also not a sexual roleplay in any sense. Please read responsibly.)
The main focus is on "Glitch-Altered Mesomechanical Entities" and those that fix them, "Tech Support", a.k.a GAME Mechanics. The trade is considered a specialized form of Emergency First Responders, with Hinobi's Glitch Techs being the primary employer for the protagonist characters.
Probably the most similar concept to the RP is GameDec, and thanks to the existence of Hinobi's new Hiverse (a metaverse of sorts) it is technically possible to be a GameDec in the RP, along with similar positions like the Glitch Techs themselves, the Arasaka Troubleshooters (evil counterpart to the Glitch Techs, not at all canon to the Cyberpunk RPG setting), the IOI Sixers (evil telecom employees), or the Satella Police (one of two e-Police operations, the other being NetWatch). One could also be a penetration tester, or a hacktivist like a dedSec member, or even a rare (well, typically rare) sapient Glitch as seen with the adult comedy platformer character Pentifer Darksoul.
The story can accommodate pretty much anything that heavily involves the tech industry, though originally it was going to be a straight up Glitch Techs original flavor RP. It's also notable that Hinobi is treated like Valve is in real life (as of 2025 AD/CE); a company that is considered (possibly wrongfully so) the "true good guys", but only because they actually respect their customers and employees, and the alternatives don't. This is the biggest contrast with Glitch Techs canon, though, as the world itself strongly resembles the canon it was originally based off of. They even have Mama Miyamoto's, the fast foot place where they put ramen-and-meatballs in a bucket.
The signup thread for the first half of Glitch Techs x RP was located here, but it can be inferred the original RP is no longer active and any activity going forward is likely to happen here.
