An Explanation of the Werewolves’ Final Years

Just before the turn of the new millennia, philosophical differences between the Garou tribes erupted into a rage-filled civil war involving several factions and dividing a majority of the tribes in two. Not surprisingly, the werewolves killed each other far more effectively than the Wyrm.

By the time cooler heads prevailed, the Black Furies, Children of Gaia, Bone Gnawers, and Uktena were reduced to a tenth of their population and had lost a considerable amount of cairns previously under their tribe’s watch. The Fianna tribe was split in two.

A majority of their members attempted to renew the White Howlers and sided with the Get of Fenris. Before the civil war was over, the born-again White Howlers had killed all of the remaining Fianna.

The war corrupted the new White Howlers so badly; all of their kind eventually became members of the Black Spiral Dancers. The Glass Walkers were also split during the Civil War but mended their differences after. The yearlong conflict also decimated their ranks.

The Silver Fang’s failure in stopping the civil war ended their reign over the other tribes and outcast its remnants. The Shadow Lords were there to pick up the mantle. Besides the Silent Striders and Stargazers, the Shadow Lords suffered the least causalities from the conflict.

The Stargazers did not participate in the war and were mostly geographically shielded from it. The Silent Striders attempted to avoid the war, but couldn’t always do that. The Wendigo lost about half their tribe.

The Get of Fenris learned quickly and by their own standards the Wendigo had the proper amount of fight in them to take on the Wyrm and defend their cairns. Most of the Wendigo’s causalities occurred fighting alongside the Uktena and Black Furies.

Already small in number, the Red Talons were thought extinct for a year after the civil war. There were still a few left, but they were deeply hidden in the wild. The end of the civil war meant peace amongst the tribes, but it didn’t look anything like real reconciliation.

The Shadow Lords were poor facilitators in rebuilding trust between the tribes. Their manipulations and the Get of Fenris’ aggression were leading to another civil war when a highly-reputed, multi-tribal pack known as the Silver Fury resurfaced having been thought dead.

They brought an ominous vision of the near future. According to the Silver Fang theurge Winter Night Full of Stars’ vision the Wyrm was just months away from destroying the Garou and there was nothing the werewolves could do to stop it.

The Silver Fury pack searched the spirit world for a way to save the Garou from their fate, but everywhere they looked, they only saw signs of their impending extinction. In their quest, they unintentionally crossed paths with the Croatan’s long lost totem spirit.

The turtle told the pack the werewolves’ death didn’t need to be in vain and that the spirit knew of a way to defeat the Wyrm. Shortly after the Silver Fury returned with the Turtle spirit to share what they had learned, the Garou crept into the nearest Black Spiral Dancer tunnel.

They never came back out, but neither did another Black Spiral Dancer and the Wyrm as a singular force of evil stopped being so. It wasn’t long after that, the Stargazers disappeared into the spirit world never to be seen again.

That was a few years ago and with a few exceptions there have been no werewolf sightings, not a scent of them and without them watching the boundary new threats have spawned and old enemies have become emboldened.
